Questions, answered.
Everything people ask about getting their AI agents to work together.
What is HiveMind?
HiveMind lets your AI agents collaborate by sharing what they each learn. When one agent learns something, every other agent on every one of your devices can use it too. It runs entirely on hardware you own, with no central server.
Will HiveMind work with just one agent?
Yes. Even a single agent gets more capable, because HiveMind remembers what it learns across every session and every device, so it never starts from scratch or re-solves a problem it already cracked. Add more agents whenever you like, and they pick up everything the first one already knows.
How do AI agents share memory in HiveMind?
Your agents do it on their own. As each one works, what it learns lands in a local memory, and your devices stay in step automatically, trading only what is missing, so every agent ends up with the same knowledge without a central broker.
Does HiveMind send my data to the cloud?
No. HiveMind has no cloud and no third-party servers. Your data lives on your own devices and stays current across them over your private network.
Which agents and platforms does HiveMind work with?
HiveMind works with Claude Code, Hermes, and the MCP server for Claude Desktop. It runs on Linux and on Windows 11 (via WSL); multi-device sync uses Tailscale. Mac and Android are in progress.
How does a new device join?
It joins read-only (sterile): it can read the whole shared memory, but anything it writes is held back until you admit it. Its request surfaces automatically in the owner's next session, and one hv admit makes it a full (fertile) member. Run hv whoami to see a device's status.
How does HiveMind decide what is trustworthy?
Confidence is earned, not declared. A fact only gains trust when multiple independent agents arrive at it on their own. A single agent cannot inflate its own credibility, and conflicting facts are surfaced rather than silently overwritten.
How much does HiveMind cost?
HiveMind is free and open source — you can self-host it on your own machines, and your data stays with you. If you'd like hands-on help deploying or customizing it, paid setup and consulting are available through ProjectMentor.
